We’ve added a new app to our Project E-vita stable of products and services for healthcare. The new app, called Pocket-PE, is specifically designed with Home Healthcare users in mind. This new app is aimed squarely at this and no other market.
Pocket-PE is installed on Healthcare professionals’ phones and tablets so that as they are out visiting patients they receive continuous updates on upcoming visits that have been recorded by staff back at the office. The data includes complete patient history & notes as well as attached documentation.
Doctors/Nurses/Therapists can record their consultations with patients with all narrative, associated clinical observations and imagery (Photos of wounds healing etc.) being synchronised back to the main Project E-vita system.
The app is fully integrated into Project E-vita’s Careplan system and all data returned from Pocket-PE users for consultations is processed by the central alerting system for highlighting issues to Schedulers and Care Managers back at the office.
Pocket-PE synchronises data while there is a data connection available and then works offline when no connection is available making it useful in remote areas where data services are often non-existent. The application will automatically resume synchronising data once a connection is available again.

Scandals such as that shown in Mid-Staffordshire NHS highlighted failure in the management of quality and risk in a healthcare environment. The government’s response called for increased demands on healthcare providers (Under a review of the Care Quality Commission) to deliver transparent auditable processes for monitoring incidents and complaints and provide frameworks for patients and healthcare professionals to feel comfortable in highlighting issues / failures.
Delivering healthcare in patients’ own homes as opposed to a hospital environment presents unique challenges in managing quality & risk. Remotely monitoring the quality of care delivered, and trapping complaints or incidents, requires special mobile solutions to enable capture of information as quickly as possible and as near to the point of delivery of care.
Project E-vita Patient Record system from Evaware Ltd has two features fully integrated into the patient record to assist in tackling these problems. Firstly what we termed “Careplan” functionality and secondly Incident & Complaint Management.
Careplans in Project E-vita are a mechanism for the establishment of a planned pathway of clinical and administrative procedures for a patient through to their eventual discharge. Deviations or exceptions are centrally monitored on a “service dashboard”. The entire pathway is mapped out in the Careplan and ad-hoc tasks can be added as the patient progresses through the treatment process. The service dashboard integration gives management a powerful oversight on what services have or have not been delivered to patients in a live feed environment and enabling them to make decisions on how best to deal with any exceptions.
Incident & Complaint Management
Careplans are designed to minimise the chance of error and are the first line of defence in managing risk in healthcare environments through there is always the chance of something going wrong. Incident and Complaint management make it easy for healthcare professionals to safely record directly onto a patient record that an incident has occurred or that a complaint has been received from a patient or their relatives. As with Careplans, Incident and Complaint cases are fully integrated into the service dashboard to quickly raise a flag with the team management that an issue has arisen and start a chain of events to manage the situation. Cases are followed up in a timely manner using the system’s review cycle and activities (Telephone calls, letters written etc) are all recorded in a comprehensive audit log providing a transparent and confidential trail showing the steps taken to resolve the situation.
Project E-vita is a secure, hosted clinical record system deployable on all devices from Smartphones up to Desktops and features powerful administrative and clinical data capture procedures to help make the delivery of healthcare attain the highest standards of quality no matter what the environment, be it hospital/community based or in patients’ own homes. Following on from the recent release of Version 10 of Project E-vita (http://projectevita.com), the pay as you go hosted electronic patient records system, Evaware Ltd of the Isle of Man has released a new app on Beta giving customers the capability to capture patient data even when off-line.
Targeting in particular Home Healthcare Providers and NGOs who often face the task of capturing clinical / consultation data while mobile and in places without links to the internet, PE Remote from Evaware Ltd (http://evaware.com) bridges the gap. PE Remote enables Project E-vita healthcare professionals to gather patient demographic and clinical data while out of range of data access, for instance in a patient’s own home, or in the case of NGO’s out in remote areas, miles from internet access. Once the operator is then in range of an internet service the system automatically synchronises all data with their master patient records hosted on Project E-vita’s service.
Initially available on Android, PE Remote will also be available on iOS devices as well as Windows phone and Windows 8.x, not to mention the upcoming release of Windows 10.
Forming a key element of Evaware’s strategy of delivering “Patient records anywhere”, PE Remote gives Project E-vita clients unmatched access to patient data review and capture functionality no matter how demanding the communications infrastructure and helping our clients deliver on contractual and clinical outputs.
Project E-vita continues with its “one fee for all features” tariff and this new software is free of charge to subscribers to the pay as you go Project E-vita platform. Project E-vita is the only hosted patient record system to charge per patient giving low cost access to advanced electronic patient record services.
Evaware has this week launched version 10 of their Project E-vita hosted Electronic Patient Record solution. Version 10 continues the strategy of bringing the capture of clinical information as close to the point of delivery of care by making Project E-vita available for Smartphones, Tablets as well as Desktop devices. Home Healthcare provision requires capture of clinical coding, imagery and medical narrative instantaneously, to allow review by monitoring clinicians. Enabling patient encounter recording on all devices Project E-vita brings the clinician into the patient’s own home. With government and private sector budgets under increasing pressure, Home Healthcare is increasingly being seen as a solution to avoiding costly hospitalisation for treatment while at the same time giving improved patient recovery times. Project E-vita is key to the management of quality in delivery of healthcare in patients’ own homes. See here for more information about the application of our software in the delivery of care in patients’ own homes.
Version 10 is not only about Home Healthcare and the acute sector. 2015 will see Evaware joining forces with medical device manufacturers and integrating monitoring equipment with the Project E-vita health record service. Evaware will offer a wide assortment of equipment for patients to use in their own homes for remote monitoring by physicians of their wellbeing as part of the management of chronic / long term conditions. Telehealth reduces hospitalisation costs and unnecessary patient inconvenience. Previously Telehealth required the inclusion of expensive in-home “hubs” to connect monitoring equipment to their patient record but the advancement of Smartphone and similar device technology has removed this need.
Evaware is now embarking on international joint ventures and expanding the global reach of their pay as you go Electronic Patient Health Record solution. Negotiations are under way to bring this essential tool for delivery and management of Home Healthcare to the Middle East, Australia and the Far East. Companies interested in working in this rapidly expanding sector of healthcare are actively being sought for cooperation.
Project E-vita – One platform, all devices.
The evidence is piling up. Delivery of Home Healthcare is being adopted throughout the developed world as governments grapple with spiralling healthcare costs for an ever ageing population.
In this article (click here) from 2012, the UK Health Service Journal (HSJ) quotes a BUPA Home Healthcare study which analysed hospital episodes statistics and identified that more than 1.3 million people were staying in hospital unnecessarily. The article later goes on to show tabular evidence where up to £1.7bn of efficiency savings could be made if the NHS tackled the length of time people were staying in hospital.
But it is not only the UK where Home Healthcare is firmly on the radar. Over in the USA “A study by the Alliance for Home Health Quality and Innovation took historical data to forecast potential savings of $10.3 billion over ten years (2014-2023) by reducing regional hospital readmissions through the use of home health as the first line to handle post-acute care episodes” says this article (Click here) in the Healthcare Daily.
Cost is not the only driving factor but also improved patient outcomes. John Hopkins also carried out a year long study (click here) involving 323 patients who were sick enough to require hospitalization, but who instead opted for care through the Hospital at Home program. The program allowed “medical professionals to provide acute hospital-level care within a patient’s home, a New Mexico health system was able to reduce costs by roughly 20 percent and provide equal or better outcomes than for hospital inpatients”.
Project E-vita has been delivering solutions to the Home Healthcare market for over 10 years, enabling our clients to capture clinical data as close to the point of delivery of care as possible, in the patient’s own home.
